Visual artist Jenny Abouav is currently occupying one of our private studios as an artist-in-residence!
Born in 1991 in L’Isle-d’Espagnac, Charente, France, Jenny Abouav lives and works in Marseille. Her artistic practice centers on performance, sound-based materials, installation, and photographic and video imagery. She explores the relationship between sculpture and living beings through the poetic and political dimensions of the body's resistance, expressed through folds, slowness, emptiness, softness, silence, and trembling.
After completing university studies in Film and Audiovisual Studies in Bordeaux, Jenny Abouav moved to Montreal, where she lived for five years and studied Visual and Media Arts, followed by Interactive Media and Sound Creation at UQAM. She settled in Marseille in 2016 and earned her DNSEP (National Higher Diploma in Fine Arts) with honors from the École supérieure d’art d’Aix-en-Provence in 2018. Her work has been presented in France and internationally, including at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles in Paris, Le 18 in Marrakech, Festival Parallèle in Marseille, GMEA in Albi-Tarn, Performance Crossing Festival in Prague, ATM: OMNI Festival in Seoul, and the Riga International Performance Festival. She was also awarded the Kafila 2023 residency program—a cultural and scientific caravan organized in partnership with the French Institute of Morocco.
