The Position

Reporting to management, the Development and Funding Coordinator will be primarily responsible for developing, writing, and following up on Ateliers Belleville’s funding applications.

They will work across a range of programs related to arts and culture, the social economy, economic development, employment, training, and organizational development.

Beyond grant applications, they will help structure and maintain the information Ateliers Belleville needs to document its development, activities, audiences, and impact. In doing so, they will contribute to building a strong institutional memory that can support funding applications, annual reports, accountability reports, and outreach to partners.

Key Responsibilities

Funding Development and Applications
  • Actively monitor grant programs and other funding opportunities;

  • Identify programs aligned with the organization’s projects, activities, and development needs;

  • Develop and maintain an annual calendar of applications, renewals, and reporting deadlines;

  • Write grant applications and other funding proposals;

  • Structure supporting arguments, project descriptions, objectives, expected outcomes, timelines, and other content required for applications;

  • Coordinate the collection of necessary financial, statistical, and administrative information;

  • Follow up with funders and partners;

  • Gradually develop an in-depth understanding of the various funding sources available to the organization.

Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare and write accountability reports related to funding received;

  • Contribute to the preparation of the organization’s general annual reviews and reports, creating a documentary foundation that can support various applications and representation efforts;

  • Track commitments, deadlines, deliverables, and conditions associated with grants;

  • Collaborate with administration and accounting to gather and validate required financial information;

  • Maintain structured documentation of submitted applications, funding decisions, agreements, and completed reports;

  • Develop tools to facilitate ongoing data collection and the preparation of future reports.

Activity Tracking and Impact Measurement

In collaboration with the teams responsible for programming and operations:

  • Document Ateliers Belleville’s activities and programming;

  • Maintain up-to-date data on the organization’s artists, members, participants, and users;

  • Compile data such as geographic origin, available demographic information, attendance, and participation;

  • Maintain a record of events, training activities, residencies, and other initiatives;

  • Document the artists, organizations, and partners involved in various projects;

  • Contribute to developing indicators to measure the organization’s growth and its artistic, cultural, social, and economic impact.

The objective is to ensure that Ateliers Belleville has reliable and readily accessible data at all times to support funding applications, reports, institutional communications, and representation efforts.

Candidate Profile

Above all, we are looking for someone with excellent writing skills and hands-on experience writing grant applications.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Significant experience writing grant and funding applications;

  • A strong understanding of public and institutional funding mechanisms;

  • Experience writing reports, annual reviews, and accountability reports;

  • The ability to quickly understand complex projects and identify their most compelling elements;

  • Excellent written French;

  • Strong synthesis, information-structuring, and argumentation skills;

  • The ability to work with both quantitative and qualitative data;

  • Strong attention to detail in managing deadlines and documentation;

  • The ability to manage multiple files and projects simultaneously;

  • A high degree of autonomy and the ability to collaborate effectively with different teams.

Knowledge of Funding Programs

Experience with programs offered by the following organizations and sectors is considered a strong asset:

  • Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ);

  • Canada Council for the Arts (CCA);

  • Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM);

  • Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec (MCCQ);

  • Canadian Heritage;

  • City of Montreal;

  • Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie (MEIE);

  • SODEC;

  • Programs for craftspeople, artists, businesses, and cultural organizations;

  • Funds and programs related to the social economy and economic development;

  • Programs supporting employment, professional integration, and workforce development, including those administered by Services Québec, as well as programs such as DémART and Jeunes volontaires.

Knowledge of all these programs is not required. We are looking for someone with demonstrated experience in this field and the ability to quickly identify, understand, and navigate new funding programs.

What We Are Particularly Looking For

This position is well suited to someone who enjoys writing, researching, documenting, and structuring information.

We are looking for someone who can take a large amount of information — financial data, statistics, activities, programming, artistic objectives, real estate considerations, or organizational issues — and turn it into clear, coherent, and compelling applications and reports.

We also want this person to contribute to developing a stronger institutional understanding of our own activities: who we reach, what we accomplish, who we work with, and the impact we generate.

Over time, they will become an important resource for management in developing Ateliers Belleville’s funding strategy and documenting the organization’s growth.

Conditions

  • 25 hours per week, with the potential to transition to full-time work in the near future;

  • Work primarily based at LAB-545 in Montreal, with the possibility of a hybrid arrangement;

  • Start date: September 2026;

  • Compensation: to be determined based on experience.

Ateliers Belleville is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting artistic practices and providing shared access to spaces, equipment, and production resources.

Through LAB-545, Ateliers Belleville is developing a major hub for artistic creation and production that brings together specialized workshops, workspaces, artist studios, shared equipment, as well as training, residency, and presentation activities.

As the organization continues to grow and diversify its funding sources, we are looking to add someone to our team who specializes in grant writing, public and institutional funding, documentation, and accountability reporting.
