Contract-based position according to Ateliers Belleville's activities and needs, non-salaried · Compensation: To be discussed based on experience · Availability: Evenings and weekends, depending on events
The Role
LAB-545 hosts exhibitions, public events, and private rentals in its two event spaces: the Common Room (capacity: 125 people) and the Multi Room (capacity: 250 people).
You are the person responsible for the venue during these events: you open the space, welcome guests, ensure everything runs smoothly, and close the venue.
What You Will Do
Open and close the event spaces and building according to the event schedule.
Welcome clients and organizing teams, and ensure that the setup complies with the rental agreement.
Act as the on-site point of contact for questions, unexpected situations, and communication with the rentals team.
Ensure the safety of people and the venue: room capacities, unobstructed exits, evacuation procedures, and initial response in the event of an incident.
Conduct a walkthrough at the end of each event to check the condition of the rooms and equipment, and complete an event report.
Provide bar service when required, depending on the event.
Oversee room layouts, furniture, and other setup requirements.
Plan each event and identify staffing needs (bar, ticketing, technical operations, room setup, and cleaning); coordinate the necessary support, ideally among Ateliers members, and work with the technical production team.
Monitor alcohol and non-alcoholic beverage inventory in coordination with sponsors. Place orders and make necessary purchases.
Purchase supplies and consumables.
Update menus in Square.
Liaise between the AV technical leads and clients.
Arrange external rentals when additional equipment or furniture is required.
Coordinate with catering services when needed.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience in venue management, event production, event reception, customer service, or another relevant field.
Calm, reliable, and self-sufficient, with the ability to handle unexpected situations proactively.
Sound judgment when it comes to safety. First aid or fire safety training is an asset.
Available for on-call shifts in the evenings and on weekends.
Ability to work with the team's shared tools: Google Workspace (email, Drive, Calendar), Slack, Square (bar point-of-sale system), and our venue rental portal, and to contribute to their ongoing development.
Excellent command of French, both spoken and written, and the ability to communicate in English with English-speaking clients.

Who We Are
Ateliers Belleville is an artistic and social hub for research and creation whose mission is to foster the growth and visibility of independent artistic practices. A non-profit organization and social economy enterprise, we have owned LAB-545 since 2022, a 56,000 sq. ft. building located at 545 rue Legendre West, in Montreal’s District Central. We are home to 70 artist and craftsperson members who occupy studios within the building, which includes four specialized workshops: woodworking, metalworking, digital fabrication, and ceramics.
Our Mission
To foster the growth and visibility of independent artistic practices in contemporary art and craft. More specifically, we provide independent artists and craftspeople with affordable studio spaces and the resources they need to create, train, produce, and present their work in a place that is open to the neighbourhood, the community, and the public.
Our Vision
To make LAB-545 a creative micro-village: a place that brings together affordable studios, training, residencies, production support, presentation spaces, and public activities, while providing the best possible conditions for artists, staff, and collaborators through activities that are largely self-financing. Our ambition is to create a model that other spaces, both in urban centres and in regional communities, can adapt.
Our Culture
We are building something that did not exist before. This requires ambition and rigour, all within a healthy work environment. The values that guide us every day are ambition, innovation, commitment, respect, collaboration, and integrity.
