The Role

You are the first point of contact for Ateliers Belleville. You welcome members, foster a sense of community, develop and coordinate our training and mentoring programs, and receive visitors. You act as a liaison between members, the team, and the technical staff of the workshops.

Members

  • Welcome new members, both studio-occupying and external, and guide them through each step of the onboarding process: community integration, access, and tools, while coordinating with the administration team on contracts and invoicing.

  • Respond to member requests and ensure appropriate follow-up.

  • Foster community engagement through member meetings, a suggestion box, feedback, and internal communications.

  • Coordinate and support the various member committees, ensuring ongoing follow-up.

  • Oversee the proper use and upkeep of shared spaces in collaboration with the building team.

  • Monitor the availability of private studios in coordination with the administration team.

  • Serve as the main point of contact between the team and members.

  • Activate and follow up on the various member committees.

Training and Mentoring

  • Coordinate health and safety training, which is a prerequisite for workshop access.

  • Develop the training catalogue in collaboration with the technical team and members with relevant expertise. This includes à la carte workshops for the general public, as well as programs for groups supported by donors.

  • Schedule training sessions, manage registrations and logistics, and collect participant feedback.

Public Reception

  • Welcome visitors and organize guided tours and open house days.

  • Provide the public with information about the workshops, training programs, and membership options for external members.

Tools

  • Maintain up-to-date member and training information across our tools (booking portal, Airtable, Google Workspace).

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in coordination, member services, reception, training management, or another relevant field.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing files and follow-ups, with the ability to handle several matters simultaneously.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a welcoming approach, diplomacy, and strong listening skills.

  • Comfortable with digital tools and interested in learning new ones.

  • Ability to work with the team's shared tools: Google Workspace (email, Drive, Docs, Calendar, Meet), Slack, Airtable, our internal portal, and artificial intelligence tools, and to contribute to their ongoing development.

  • Excellent command of French, both spoken and written, and the ability to communicate in English with English-speaking members and visitors.

  • Knowledge of the arts, crafts, or fabrication workshop environments, acquired through education, professional experience, or personal practice (an asset).

What We Offer

  • $35/hour, 25 hours per week, with the possibility of transitioning to full-time hours depending on your circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed with the selected candidate.

  • 44 weeks per year. Schedule, benefits, and vacation time to be discussed with the selected candidate.

  • A unique workplace at the heart of artistic creation, with a community of 70 artists and craftspeople.

Who We Are

Ateliers Belleville is an artistic and social hub for research and creation whose mission is to foster the growth and visibility of independent artistic practices. A non-profit organization and social economy enterprise, we have owned LAB-545 since 2022, a 56,000 sq. ft. building located at 545 rue Legendre West, in Montreal’s District Central. We are home to 70 artist and craftsperson members who occupy studios within the building, which includes four specialized workshops: woodworking, metalworking, digital fabrication, and ceramics.

Our Mission

To foster the growth and visibility of independent artistic practices in contemporary art and craft. More specifically, we provide independent artists and craftspeople with affordable studio spaces and the resources they need to create, train, produce, and present their work in a place that is open to the neighbourhood, the community, and the public.

Our Vision

To make LAB-545 a creative micro-village: a place that brings together affordable studios, training, residencies, production support, presentation spaces, and public activities, while providing the best possible conditions for artists, staff, and collaborators through activities that are largely self-financing. Our ambition is to create a model that other spaces, both in urban centres and in regional communities, can adapt.

Our Culture

We are building something that did not exist before. This requires ambition and rigour, all within a healthy work environment. The values that guide us every day are ambition, innovation, commitment, respect, collaboration, and integrity.
